Park Literacy Project

Our Mission

The Park Literacy Project exists to ignite a love of reading in every family and extend the conditions for literacy into every community we serve — because if there is no will, there is no way.

The Park Literacy Project is a Maryland-based nonprofit dedicated to building engaged, motivated readers across every community we serve. Grounded in the knowing that motivation is the foundation of literacy, we provide joyful community programming and meaningful access to books and authors for children and families regardless of background or circumstance. We provide support to families seeking literacy assistance. We don’t just tell people to read; we create engaging opportunities to be part of the reading community and give them a reason to.

Vision

We envision a Maryland where no child goes through a school year without meeting an author and being inspired to read their book, where every school bookfair shelf holds books that look like, sound like, and speak to the community it serves, and where the love of reading is not a privilege of geography or circumstance but a shared experience that belongs to every child, every adult, in every classroom, and in every home in every corner of our state.
